OOTD (From earlier in December)

Hello lovelies!

I am back and as per usual, life has run away with me again! Since I was last able to post, I lost one of my part time jobs due to the company moving to America and was left having to find something else. This, all before Christmas and while still unpacking bits from moving. Whilst looking for work, I checked the Lush website in hopes of there being a shop opening up in Canterbury (the closest bigger city to where I live) and my jaw dropped to the floor, there was! After a series of interviews, I got the job and went through the most fun and interesting training week ever, full of Christmas, skin and hair care training complete with loads of products to test out. Stay tuned on here as I have lots of things to tell you about what I have learned and if you are curious about Lush or what you could use from them feel free to message me with questions!

I had to go down to London to meet the team for the Lush shop, which hadn’t opened, so almost the entire staff were new and all getting to know each other. I wanted to wear something friendly but that would also show off my fancy purple hair which I am still in love with.  I chose this little get up, digging out a couple of old favourites to pull it all together.

I am wearing:

Mauve Cardi – Primark (currently available for £6!)

Stay tuned for a Christmas special with Simply Be!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE! XO

Check Out My New Do!

Oh hi there again!

So, when I was in London 2 weeks ago to visit Evans (as you can see in the previous post) I booked in to have my hair cut and styled at Rockalily Cuts over in the Hoxton/Shoreditch hood of London. I had been waiting impatiently to have my hair done here for ages, as I have wanted a proper fringe done up and had so many botched cuts in the last couple of months. Rockalily Cuts specialises in rockabilly hair styles and classic looks. It is definitely the cutest salon I have ever been in, topped off with the lovely 2 woman crew running it and a little dog named Ellington.

I had planned to simply go in and have my hair cut and styled all fancy and rockabilly like but I didn’t expect to have all my hair dreams come true like they did. There was a woman ahead of me who had awesome orange/red hair that was being all done up in a curl set, complete with time under the dryer hood. When she emerged, she had big perfect curls that looked amazing. I told the stylist, Lucie that I had always dreamed of having mine done like that and she promptly offered to do it to mine too. An hour later, feeling rather pampered, I was all done up looking cute and curled and in my best outfit for the afternoon.

Outfit: Shirt – Received from a clothes swap

Skirt – Collectif (here)

Shoes – TK Maxx (Hush Puppies)

Belt – Torrid

Necklace – MooMoonz

I have absolutely fallen in love with having curly hair and wish it would always stay this fun and awesome.  If you are in London you should definitely book in for a hair cut or do, it was such a great time and I walked out feeling like a million bucks! Thanks Lucie and ReeRee!

And now a picture of me, curly haired, day 2, working behind the bar 🙂

Thanks for reading and stay tuned as I have more goodies coming from Collectif in the post! Run Postman Run!

Little black dress – Kelly O. Style

Hi friends!

I know it’s been a long two months since I have been on here and I apologize for leaving you all hanging… how rude of me, I know! I thought as my first outfit post back I would do something special. For those of you who don’t know I spent all of May and the beginning of June walking an 800 km pilgrimage across Spain and as you can imagine, I came back very excited to see my wonderful suitcase full of clothes again. On top of that, I moved from Paris to London and so I am trying to settle in to my new life.

After coming home from Spain, my body had totally changed and now all my clothes fit differently so I am kind of rediscovering my style. Since I seem to be in style crisis mode, I decided to start things out with a celebrity inspired post. I chose a celebrity who, when in high school I used to be mistaken for, Kelly Osbourne.

She has been in the public eye since before her teens and has been through the Hollywood ringer many times, criticized for her unique style, drug addictions but above all, her weight. Today Kelly has lost a great deal of weight and seems to have sorted her life out and is doing well. What I like most about her is that she never apologized for her size even when the media were eager for her to do so. In the end, the weight that she did lose was from dancing and performing, things that she loves doing. For me that’s how it should be done- you do something you love and if you change with it then so be it.

Kelly hits the red carpets in little black dresses and loves her accessories like big hats and fun jewelry. Since she’s got amazing dancer’s calves she always puts everything together with a fab pair of heels. Here is my interpretation…

Dress: Torrid (old collection)

Heels: New Look (Winter collection- black embossed)

Bowler Hat – Le Chateau (Canada)

Eyeliner and lipstick- Biguine Marilyn Monroe collection

Hoop Earrings and bird brooch – Primark

Look at the pretty sleeves!!! 🙂

Les jolies manches!!! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by! Come back soon! Gros bisous les filles et merci!

OOTD: Mad for plaid and I’m moving!

Hiya!

Thanks to everyone who participated in any way yesterday for the day of silence by bloggers for Japan!!! I am back today with an outfit that makes everyone at my work comment on how Canadian I am. I’ll admit I wear a lot of plaid but I just can’t help myself – maybe it’s in my blood. 😉  I spend my day running around at work and so to accommodate this I often wear my little converse knockoffs, so despite them not being the most fashion forward, they get the job done and they are comfy. I was also carrying one of my favourite canvas bags from Primark, mostly as an excuse to announce to all of you that I am moving to London at the beginning of June! I have officially become a Brit – passport and all and I am heading to London to see what exciting things are happening there! I am super excited, although I’ll miss my friends in Paris – but we really are just across the pond so I’ll be back for visits. Also, if you know anyone with a room to let in London for June please let me know, I am actively searching!

This tunic was once a dress but alas silly me didn’t see it wrapped up in my sheets in the wash which then went right into the dryer and made my dress a little too short on the back end to wear sans skirt. Regardless I still love it because it is airy and light and plaid!

Dress/tunic – Torrid (Summer 2010 collection)

Skirt – H&M

Tights – Spanx

Shoes – no brand (converse knockoffs)

Bag – Primark

Earrings – Claire’s (from years ago)

Thanks for stopping by!!

I’m back!

Hey everyone!

First off, I have to apologize for the major hiatus that I took unannounced. I was moving from Halifax back to Toronto before I head to France next week. So I finally have my real closet back with all of my beloved shoes and accessories that I missed so dearly. I was really feeling deprived of them in my little tiny room in Halifax. At the moment my good old bedroom in Toronto is a mess of suitcases and clothing strewn about everywhere and I don’t know where to begin.

I was fortunate enough to also make a day trip to Buffalo to check out what Torrid had in stock. Granted the Torrid store in Buffalo is small and usually under-stocked, I did find a couple of nice things. I picked up a Denim Bow bust dress (that feels a lot softer than it looks and looks very different on me than on the model on the website.) On my shape it really fits more like an Alice in Wonderland inspired dress looking poofier on the bottom, although I am considerably shorter than the model and have a bigger bust. Either way, it looks great!

I also snagged two pairs of jeans, one being a pair of their Ultra Stretch (almost Jeggings) flare jeans. I was skeptical about how the ultra stretch would look thinking it might be too thin a fabric and not look enough like jeans but I was completely wrong. They are so comfortable and look like a good pair of dark jeans rather than a stretchy pair of Jeggings. The only downside is no front pockets, but a girl has to make sacrifices once in a while. The other bonus to these jeans is that they are available in short, regular and tall – and for once the short fits me perfectly, as I am only 5’5″  and usually have to have all of my pants taken up.

I am still in search of a couple of other pairs of sandals but I rather liked these so I got them as a starter pair:

I will be taking photos of all of my new things this week as I have my dearest best friend /stylist Sarah with me to help prepare my suitcase for my big departure. She will also be helping me make a dress out of a really neat Threadless tshirt that we ordered. Keep your fingers crossed that it works out for me, as in the past I haven’t been so good with these kinds of projects. This week will be a busy one on here so stay tuned, as I am back to writing regularly!

Hooray for packages!!!

So recently, I have been ordering many things online in preparation for my closet overhaul. The most exciting thing is that they are all arriving this week. So far I have received a pair of dark wash jeans from Faith 21 (which I have to return because they are too big, but the pants are nice and price is even nicer, so I would recommend them anyways) and 2 camisole tank tops (Purple and white) as well as a wicked polka dot head band.  I also received my first purchase from ASOS curve. Being from Canada, I had never really explored the plus size fashion outside of the US, thinking that the shipping and handling would be too ludicrous to bare. As it turns out the entire purchase was actually cheaper than my average Torrid order. I have been pretty bored with Torrid lately, but I think it is because I have been ordering from them for so many years that I was starting to feel like it was repetitive.  Nevertheless, they are still a fantastic company. Here is a dress I purchased a few months ago from Torrid, but please excuse my bad posture. It is really comfortable and can be puffed out more in the bottom as it has a balloon hem.

Photo: Dress: Torrid    Cardigan: Target (old collection)  Necklace: ToodalooKatie (my own creation)

In my ASOS order I received a black boyfriend over sized tshirt and a pair of black skinny jeans. The shirt is a bit big, but as a plus I can wear it as a shirt dress with leggings and this fabulous new long cardigan that I got from Urban Behaviour this weekend.

I also have 2 dresses from Alight which I am in love with, one Indian style print summer dress and one mini puff skirt tank dress. I know it’s all hard to imagine so I will be taking photos just as soon as I finish work  and my exam this week.

I am also expecting a couple of things from Dorothy Perkins this week which I can hardly contain my excitement about.

I will keep you posted, but this week is going to be one helluva closet buster!!

loves,

Katie
