To Muskoka and Beyond….

It’s been awhile, I know, slap on the wrist!
I’m back after a beautiful, but quick weekend away in Muskoka. For those of you who don’t know, Muskoka is a district about 2 hours north of Toronto full of lovely small towns and it’s considered mainly cottage country to us city folk. Life up north is different, and a much quieter pace, so it’s the perfect place to get away from the city for a weekend, and best of all, for me, it means spending time with close friends who spend their Summers there.
Steven and I hit the road early Saturday morning, beating the sure to be terrible traffic, by an hour or two, and arriving in Huntsville by around 10am. It was the perfect day, full of bright sunshine, somewhat overwhelming heat but also a big street fair running right down the main street. They had rolled out grass to cover the pavement and kids played with giant Jenga, bouncy balls and hula hoops up and down in their bare feet. There was music and the entire town was alive, just how I remembered it from being there last time, at least 9 or so years ago.

I took Steven up and down the high street, and we poked our heads in to all the shops that sell a million versions of Muskoka branded clothing and strange little antiques. We picked up a couple of neat vintage things that we don’t have space for at home but wanted to have anyways.
At the bottom of the main street is a pub with tables on the main docks, so we had a drink and some lunch there before deciding to move on to another little town called Bracebridge.
Bracebridge is smaller than Hunstville but also a bit cuter, with a little waterfall and a historic walk that takes you around the falls and into a bit of forest.

Despite the afternoon heat becoming a bit much, we did the little walk and followed it up with Nanaimo bar ice cream cones. I was feeling increasingly more Canadian as the day went on, as Muskoka really brings out my Canadian pride – it just feels like home no matter what town we stop in.

To add to the already friendly home town charm, we heard The Tragically Hip playing in so many shops and people everywhere asked if we were planning on watching the final show on Saturday night. It really made me happy to see the support and love that they are getting everywhere.
We were going to be visiting friends at a cottage, but had received a night at the Pine Lodge Inn in Port Sydney, not far from where our friends were staying, so we stopped by our lovely room to have a rest before heading over to dinner.
Pine Lodge is just a quick walk from the main swimming dock on Mary Lake and about 15 minutes walk from the general store, Uncle Larry’s, in Port Sydney. It’s an older lodge with modern rooms so ended being a great place to stay and we felt totally spoiled.
Our evening was filled with sharing a barbequed meal, with wine and cake to celebrate a friend’s birthday, her daughter’s imminent departure to university and Steve and I’s upcoming wedding. Best of all, we laughed and had a wonderful evening in the best company.

To top it all off, we watched the Hip’s last show and it was emotional like I expected but even more touching was hearing it around the lake when you stepped outside. I think most people in neighbouring cottages were tuned in as well, to spend one last night with Gord Downie. I think I will write a separate post about The Tragically Hip because I know that so many of you are reading this and have no connection to them since they aren’t known all around the world – they are a genuine Canadian treasure.

In true Muskoka fashion, it thunder stormed all through the night on Saturday and we woke up to no power on Sunday morning. We set out to still have a big hot breakfast, making eggs, bacon and toasted bagels on the barbeque, although I have to confess that we cheated slightly when we took the glass coffee pot down to the general store to fill it with hot coffee. To be fair, one can only do so much with a barbeque before they have had coffee.
We spent the remainder of Sunday sitting on the porch in the random moments of sun and shade, and we bravely went for a swim in the lake, despite it being windy and a bit chilly. Being in the lake is so therapeutic mainly because you can float along without worrying about salt water getting in your eyes, which in my opinion makes it more fun than being in the ocean-  but maybe I’m biased, having not grown up close to the ocean.

As per tradition, at least in my family, we made a pit stop at Webers burgers in Gravenhurst before sitting in traffic with the million other people who decided that driving home Sunday night was a good idea too – but hey! What can ya do?! EH?!

I have to say that after being away from cottage country for so long, I didn’t realize just how much I missed it and how much it’s a part of who I am. I’m so excited that we are spending more time up there after the wedding in September – I can hardly wait.

Summer Footwear Wish List – Feat. Jones Bookmaker

Hi everyone!
So with a new job in the pipeline and my love for shoes still strong, I’m thinking I need to up my shoes game for the office. I don’t want to lose the fun and freedom of my usual sandals, but still want to feel put together. My go to shop for a great mix of fun and sophisticated has, for the last couple of years been Jones Bookmaker. I like that I can get several brands including their own in one place and I find the sales are always really great as well.
I’ve put together a little wish list below of my ultimate Summer to office footwear along with Jones Bookmaker, my first paycheque better watch out! It’s definitely going to be on my feet!
Gamine Smart Silver Flats via Jones Bootmaker – I love these silver flats because the straps give them a sandal feel while remaining fun and colourful but still office appropriate.
Ted Baker Loomi Smart Brogues via Jones Bootmaker – These brogues are amazing because they are fun and bright, still feeling like Summer but ultra smart.
Giselle Casual Athleisure via Jones Bookmaker – I love the suede and metallic mix on these and not to mention the platform – The would look so cool with cigarette pants or a midi skirt for fun!
Koi Wedge Heels Wedge Sandals Medium Heels – My favourite part of these sandals are the pastel colours but also that they look like nice and comfortable shoes. I could likely stand all day in these and still feel cute and put together.
So what do you think? What are you go-to shoe styles for Summer when you work somewhere corporate? I’m interested to know what others like as my new job is going to be the most corporate place that I have ever worked… roll on new experiences!

Polka Dots in Paradise

Good morning everyone!
So I finally have some great news! I am starting a new job next week and with this, a new wardrobe is the obvious next step… I think we can all agree! Over the last 7 months or so, working from home has been great, in terms of having my own time and being able to settle in to my new home, however, I found that it had a huge effect on my energy levels, excitement around clothing and getting dressed and just generally about how I was functioning. I am really looking forward to getting up everyday, putting on my makeup and picking out an outfit. I really miss that routine that I had back in London as I do love that entire morning process.

With this news, I am hoping that it will provide amazing opportunities for loads of blog photos and to go back to having a busy Instagram like I used to. I miss being on social media the way that I was before and am hoping to get back there with all of you asap.
I wanted to start by sharing a little clothes story about a super cute dress that I received from Navabi a while back.

When I was browsing on Navabi’s website, this little navy polka dot number from Zizzi, one of my favourite brands, caught my eye. I loved the print, and the fun yet sophisticated cut. I could immediately imagine myself wearing this dress out for fun, or with a blazer and pointed flats for work, and that to me is reason enough to own it- versatility is key!
When I received the dress at first, I put it on, and in all honesty I wasn’t that into it. I let it hang in my closet and ignore it for a month until I gave it another try. The reason I am telling you all this story, is because sometimes it’s not the clothes, but it’s actually how I am feeling. The day that initially tried this on, I wasn’t feeling great and so that feeling was projected onto this poor dress.
Today, I wear this dress 1-2 times a week – I can’t get enough of it and here is why.

For starters, the obvious cute print and neckline is excellent for those of us who are bustier but would also work nicely on a smaller chest. I love that it has a little sleeve, so it feels office appropriate and also protects my delicate shoulders from the sun. Next, what you can’t see, is that it’s lined with a soft jersey fabric which means it feels so nice on the body. It’s loose and doesn’t cling but comfortable and fits right and true to size. I think we can all agree that there is nothing about this dress that isn’t great.

I think you should all have it on hand for both work and play – I plan on wearing it to the office lots and also think that it will transition well into winter with a cardigan and tights.
You can find links on where to buy what I am wearing below the post. Unfortunately, my pineapple bag is last year’s model from Primark, but I have found a similar one to link you. Also, my little green belt is one that I pinched off another dress so sadly I can’t provide you with a link to that.
So how’s that for a new outfit post, probably the first in a few months. Stay tuned for my exciting new work wear posts, along with a couple of fun lifestyle things too!
xoxo

Just Keep Swimming… with Simply Be!

Hi everyone,
I’m making an an effort to write new posts for you as I slide back into blogging. Like I have mentioned, I haven’t felt entirely myself lately but I’m feeling a bit more normal, certainly the sun outside is making things easier too.
For those of you who think that Canada is just a big old cold country, you are very wrong, we, especially here in Toronto suffer from some serious heat waves and this Summer is no exception. Today, I am couched with my computer in front of a fan so that I don’t melt. All I can think about is going for a swim, which I am planning on doing later at a friend’s condo, thankfully!
What I am really looking forward to though, is heading over to the Toronto Islands which aren’t far at all, and swimming in the lake. This is just such a Summer friendly activity and makes me want to have all the swimwear in the world.
Since I have been saving for my wedding though, I can’t have all of the swimwear, but a girl can dream right? I have put together this adorable swim day wish list of all of my favourites from Simply Be, because they have such a great selection of plus size swimwear.
At Simply Be, they are running a campaign around body confidence and as part of it they are offering loads of mix and match options. If you, like me, love the bikini tops with lots of support but then a mismatched bottom in a high waist then you can make all this happen now without breaking the bank!
Long live Summer swims!

2Plus2 – Way Back Wednesday in Dots!

Good morning everyone!
So today, Hollie (from Pretty Big Butterflies), and I are sharing an old post that we somehow let fall in to the “to post” pile a while back. We both got this super cute polka dot dress from Evans * a while back and it is so cute with a peekaboo back and soft material and the cute polka dot print!
We both wore our dresses with the same shoes that we found whilst shopping in Sainsburies – what a deal. They are adorable pointed flats in black and white stripes. It was also a perfect excuse to mix and match prints.
We both wore it differently, Hollie tying hers in the back to create a more wiggle dress like silhouette, and I wore it more loose, as it was made. I really love how we can wear things differently and how nice this dress looks on both of us!
How perfect does that little knot look in the back!?
I think it’s great how this dress, although very simple and inexpensive hits the spot when it comes to simple yet stylish fashion. Both Hollie and I look fab and effortless but very different!
I must admit that looking back on these photos makes me miss the ease of throwing on Summer dresses, but I am also loving my Autumn wardrobe – it’s hard when we are caught between seasons like this!
What do you miss most about Summer, and what are you most enjoying about Autumn?

The Lawn for a #PicnicAtTheTower

Hello everyone!
So today is a slightly different post as I want to tell you all about this lovely picnic that I attended on The Lawn at The Tower Hotel a couple of weeks ago. A big group of bloggers were invited to have an evening tea on The Lawn, which is a literal green space in front of the Tower Hotel that borders the Thames and looks on to Tower Bridge. It has a spectacular view and a lovely ambiance, with groovy music playing and fun “yard sized” games to play.
It really was beautiful to watch the sun set – look at that sky!
Hollie from PrettyBigButterflies and I went together and after one (or two) cheeky glasses of deliciously fruity Pimms, we headed straight for the mega Jenga where we played a heated game that went on for much longer than everyone expected.
Once we finally settled down, we enjoyed the view whilst testing out all the goodies in our picnic box. We had a selection of small sandwiches, fruit, Innocent juice and of course dessert! They had options for vegetarians and other types of foodies too!
The Lawn would be an amazing place to have a party after work or take friends who are visiting London or even to celebrate your birthday! It’s in the heart of London and has some amazing views – not to mention you can sit and watch the sun go down whilst enjoying the outdoor bar and passing people.
Check out this lush lawn against my orange shoes!
Here Hollie and I are enjoying our delicious cocktails all in blue – we don’t coordinate on purpose – it just happens.
The Tower hotel is part of the Guoman hotel group and is really a one of a kind spot to stay in London as there aren’t many hotels around the same area and certainly none that can offer the views and proximity to sights like Tower Bridge and the Tower of London too!
I had so much fun at the picnic and will definitely be heading back to the Lawn again soon!

Smile Brighter with Smile Brilliant!

Hello!
So as I’m sure you have seen in most of my photos, I have a hard time not smiling and it’s always with my mouth wide open. I have always been a big smiler and I think that the most lovely thing about grinning and baring your teeth is that it’s really infectious and that it helps others feel happy in a little way too.
In middle school, I had a little help with my smile, when my teeth were straightened through the power of braces which I am very happy about. I have, however always had an issue with my teeth being a bit yellow, but had never really done anything about it. When I was approached by American based company Smile Brilliant to test out their at home whitening kit. It’s the same caliber and precision of whitening as you would get at the dentist but for a fraction of the cost.
My partner, Steven, mentioned, when I was telling him about taking on this review, that he also has struggled with yellow teeth and has tried store bought treatments in the past, but has never had a long lasting effect or felt like any were particularly good so we decided to do it together.
We were sent a kit in the post with trays and special dental puddy to create moldes of our teeth which we then sent back to Smile Brilliant
Within a couple of weeks, we were sent perfectly made trays that matched our teeth.
From there, it was a simple task of using the whitening solution in the tray and popping the tray in for the allotted time. It really was a simple task and something that anyone could do – no less effort than using something store bought like whitening strips, only a lot less messy.
Because the trays are fit to your teeth, it means they stay in place and you can get on with doing stuff as they work their magic. When you are done, you pop them out, rinse your mouth and the trays and store them in the handy little container that you can take with you anywhere.
The Results: I used my trays once and did notice a difference in the colour, even after one go, however it made my teeth very sensitive after, which I found uncomfortable. I have had somewhat sensitive teeth most of my life, so it may come partially from that, but for me, this was a downside. I spoke to Smile Brilliant about it and they were very helpful, and linked me to a couple of articles about what I was experiencing including Tooth Sensitivity,  whether whitening is harmful to enamel, and if I had anything to worry about in terms of risks.
For Steven, it was totally different. He was over the moon with his results. Not only was there a massive difference after one go, and even more as he continued to use the trays over a couple of weeks, but his teeth genuinely looked much better and most of the stains had faded or gone completely from his teeth. He didn’t have any sensitivity at all and absolutely loves the system.
Smile Brilliant is a great system if you want dentist style whitening but don’t have the money to pay for the several trips to the dentist – it also means you can do it at your own pace and whiten for as long as you are comfortable. It still feels personal, as the tray fits your teeth and comes in a package just for you, so it’s not like using something off the shelf at all.

#FrenchCurves | La Dolce Vita

Hello everyone!
I am so excited to share this #FrenchCurves post with you as the theme for July is “La Dolce Vita” so all things glamorous and wonderful. I knew as soon as the theme came up that I wanted to wear something special and unique and I found the perfect dress.

When I think of the the finer things of life and fashion, I always come back to fabrics like satin, silk and fur, but since I don’t wear fur, I found an amazing satin dress with a beautiful classic floral print. The dress is also a modest cut that really sits perfectly on me in every place.

I think pearls are the ultimate symbol of classic decadence and although my pearls are costume jewellery, I think it works well and really adds a personal touch and makes it more my style.
This dress makes me feel like I can accomplish anything, and really makes me feel like I stand out in a great way.
Je pense que les perles sont une symbole de la décadence classique et meme si mes perles sont des bijoux de costume, je pense qu’ils vont bien quand meme et ajoutent une touche personnelle et le rend plus mon style.
This fit and flare floral dress is from Navabi, and is made by Manon Baptiste*. If you love the print I am wearing, it also exists in a topflare trousers and the most beautiful maxi dress – I want them all!
After all is the good life not all about having things you love and living out your desires?
Cet robe imprimer de fleurs viens de Navabi, et est faite par Manon Baptiste *. Si vous aimez l’imprimer que je porte, il existe aussi comme un topun pantalon flare et la plus belle robe maxi – Je les veux tous!

I am wearing/ Je porte: Dress/Robe – Manon Baptists (Navabi), Shoes/Chaussures – New Look (old/ancien), Pearls/Perles – clothing swap/ trouver.

Summer is for Sandals!

Hello everyone!
So today I bring you an exciting PSOOTD post that incorporates my favourite new Summer sandals. Now, as a Canadian, Birkenstocks have always been a Summer footwear staple. I have a pair waiting for me back in Toronto that I have had since the beginning of high school – they grow with you and will be resoled many times before they are done for good.
With this is mind, you can imagine my excitement when they seemingly came back in to fashion in the last 2 years. I have lusted over so many cute designs and longed for my good faithful pair back home.

When Jones Bootmaker got in touch with me recently seeing if I wanted to try out something from their Summer offerings, I was really excited. I’ve purchased shoes from them before and have nothing but good things to say, and to find out that they had Birkenstocks was even better!
I chose these gorgeous rose gold Gizeh model Birkenstocks* and received them very quickly.
I have been wearing them for a week to really test them out and I am happy to report that they are super comfortable and look so cute – they even sparkle in the sun! They really remind me of my best friend back home because I know that she would love them – they are very “Sarah”.
I planned my entire outfit around them, wearing a bright coloured top that matched my bag and some soft denim capris. I feel like I am all set for the Summer now!
Top – Geoge at Asda | Bottoms – Alice and You via Asos | Sandals – Jones Bootmaker * | Bag -Boohoo | Necklace – Primark | Glasses – Crap Eyewear
Thanks Jones Bootmaker for the amazing sandals – I am so pleased and can’t wait to wear them on my holiday and everywhere for that matter!
Head over to the Jones Bootmaer website to check out all the other great brands they have, and plenty of shoes are on sale at the moment, so get in quick! Everything they sell is high quality and will last so well worth whoever you spend.

Pretty in Pink

Good morning lovelies!
Today I am finally posting one of my favourite outfits ever from Yours Clothing! I have had these photos for ages now but just haven’t had a chance to get the post done so I am so excited to show you these now. A few posts ago, I reviewed the Bluewater store and featured a fitting room photo of this outfit, but it really deserved more.

Since then, the beautiful With Wonder and Whimsy has featured it and a similar look by the ever gorgeous Pretty Big Butterflies – so now it’s my turn!
Yours pastel bits and bobs at the moment are so on trend and the fit is epic – the sizing is great and the clothes are well cut which is super exciting! It really feels like they are coming into their own, and have a little something for everyone as the site has so many different styles.

I love this pink top with the cute scalloped trim on the sleeves and bottom trim – it’s feminine and light but can also be popped on without thinking and finish any outfit.
The skirt is a heavy scuba material that gives it a proper shape and it sits as though it had crinoline underneath which I absolutely love. The entire outfit is cute and fresh and screams Summer!

I popped on my Dorothy Perkins gold flats – my go to shoe these days as they are cute and sophisticated but oh-so comfortable and put all my necessities in my new Hotter Shoes  Marci bag! Voila! My newest favourite outfit! It really feels complete and like a proper outfit which makes me walk a little taller, I’m sure!

Have you shopped at Yours lately? Do you have any favourite pieces? Be sure to shop the post below if you are loving this outfit as much as me!
